Cheers to a new year!

Pretty floral detail photograph with sky blue background. Perfect inspiration for a letterpress wedding invitation.

And just like that, it’s 2021. The longest year ever has ended. There was literal blood, sweat and tears but we made it through.

This new year is different this year. There’s a huge uncertainty about it. This time last year, I was getting over my messy sleep schedule and holiday eating and finding comfort of getting back on schedule with my fitness routine and welcoming a whole new year of fun projects and events. I was managing multiple invitation designs for my spring run of weddings and finally getting the invitation portion of my business to take off.

This year is extra difficult because the uncertainty of the world and the spread of this virus did not disappear as the clock struck 12 on January 1, 2021. This new year did not feel like the fresh start that it usually does. With every booking I am preparing myself to accommodate my clients should their plans change. As much as I want things to run smoothly with my scheduling, I think I’ve finally learned to embrace the chaos of event scheduling during a pandemic. I’ve learned how to be flexible and I’ve learned how to help my clients adapt to changes that are beyond anyone’s control. After struggling with this last year, I’m feeling way better managing the “new normal” this year after a short pause with the wedding industry to focus on the wedding industry.

I’ve also decided to go ahead and do mini features on this blog of some of my favourite pieces, collaborations and even some processes! I’m hoping to use this space so that you can take a peek into the window of Anelo Calligraphy.

I’m hoping that this will not only give me the opportunity to share some particular favourite projects of mine, but that it will give me the time to revisit old projects, meditate on them and give me the opportunity not only to be inspired by my own work, but to improve the ways I do things behind the scenes here.

After all, the future is still uncertain right now; the least I can do is try to improve every day.
